The Cassidys, Susan and her daughter Randee of Standish and Sebago respectively, wrote a children’s book together. They will be sharing from the book during a special Saturday Storytime this summer.
They were inspired to write the book while sitting around a few campfires with a then-6-year-old who was bored. We started talking about the various outdoor nature activities that she could do if we had only brought a few supplies to help us out. As we did this, we said, “We should be writing this down.” Thus, the beginning of the draft. We had been talking about writing a book together, and this just seemed…natural. The book is loaded with ideas and lists that should help prepare for a camping trip with kids.
The name “Ladybugs” comes from the nickname that Susan has for the now-7-year-old, Randee’s daughter, Remi Lyn, and Ellie is Susan’s older granddaughter.
Susan is a retired college educator. Randee is an instructional coach at Buxton Center Elementary School and a literacy instructor at the University of Southern Maine.
