Circulation and ILL policies

Circulation Policy

Books, Audiobooks, CDs, Magazines
Spaulding Memorial Library has no limit on the number of books, CDs, audiobooks or magazines a patron may check out at one time. However, common sense should prevail. We do request that a patron check out only two (2) new books (with yellow dots) at one time. Books, CDs, magazines and audios are checked out for a period of two weeks and can be renewed if not previously reserved or requested by another patron.

Videos and DVDs
Videos and DVDs may be checked out for one (1) week and may be renewed for an additional week if no one is on the waiting list. Videos and DVDs are limited to two (2) at one time and may only be checked out by adults 18 years and older.

Interlibrary Loan Policy

Spaulding Memorial Library participates in the national interlibrary loan (ILL) program that permits the library to borrow materials for its patrons from other libraries. This interlibrary loan service is available to all patrons whose record is clear of fines and overdue items. Books and photocopies of articles from periodicals not owned by Spaulding Memorial Library, or that are otherwise unavailable, may be requested for loan through interlibrary loan. Recordings, microfilm and genealogy materials may be requested but are often difficult to obtain.

Books and other media requested through interlibrary loan shall be loaned for a period of at least three (3) weeks to allow time for mail delivery. Additional time may be requested and granted depending on the loaning library’s policy.

Outgoing media will be sent upon confirmation of request and should be returned in a timely manner. SML will renew ILL requests if items have not been previously reserved. The librarians may use their discretion if the media requested is new, popular or valuable.
